Drovers Retreat
Drovers Retreat is our sympathetically converted and eco Victorian stone barn at Graig Farm, in the Welsh Border country. It offers beautiful 4-star self-catering accommodation for up to four people. A sofa bed, travel cot and high chair are also available.
Ideal for couples, families, nature-lovers, walkers, cyclists and dog-lovers. It has been awarded a silver Green Tourism award.
Drovers Retreat lies above a medieval Drovers road, a few hundred yards from a Roman road. Feel close to this history and wide landscape. You can walk or cycle the green lanes, forest tracks and footpaths; listen to the sounds of nature and livestock, or just breathe the clear upland air. Red kites and buzzards circle above on the thermals with their evocative cries, whilst sheep graze in the fields below. Enjoy our own Drovers Woodland walk, where you can unpeel its history, whilst children and dogs can explore the regenerating wild area.
Relax and unwind to soak up the majesty of nature at our secluded and unique location, whilst still enjoying all the 4-star family luxury and conveniences you require. Then explore the local market towns and picturesque villages of the Welsh Borders- there’s more going on than you may think!
This is Welsh Border Country at its natural, idyllic best.
Drovers Retreat consists of 2 bedrooms – a double and a twin, plus a sofa bed and cot if required. There is a bathroom, with shower and bath, and a kitchen. Outside are two seating areas one in the woodland behind the cottage. Nearby a large area of woodland is available for walking or just absorbing nature.
Next to Drovers is an ancient wood and stone barn which is equipped for games such as snooker, darts and table football.

Food
About the food
The owners of Drovers Retreat, Bob and Carolyn, were pioneers of organic food, starting their multi award-winning organic food company on the farm in 1988. The quality of food is therefore very important to them. Being self-catering, Drovers Retreat does not offer a restaurant, but an Honesty Shop offers a range of basic foods, together with some excellent locally produced and sourced frozen meals. Local pubs and restaurants offer excellent quality food, from authentic Indian cooking to traditional British pub food to some truly superb eateries.
Alternatively, for guests who want to do their own cookery, the kitchen is fully equipped, and two local small towns have thriving independent wholefood shops, including fresh local vegetables, dairy and bread. For meat eaters, traditional butchery shops have survived in both towns, where locally sourced meat of high quality and welfare can be found.
