PREVENTIVE YOGA, A WAY TO REGENERATE WITH MADELEINE ROMMEL
WHAT IS PREVENTIVE YOGA ?
The concept of Preventive Yoga corresponds to a desire to protect and heal ourselves by turning our consciousness inwards to listen to our Inner Wisdom that manages the movements of our body.
By integrating preventive parameters into our Yoga practice, we allow our brain to optimise movement, integrating the entire muscular system, which is accordingly more complete and therapeutic.
Applying preventive physiological parameters optimizes movements by solicitation in synergy of the entire muscular system.
The preventive movement is therefore more global and safer than the voluntary movement imposed on the body; it also requires less effort and leads to less wear or even allows the body structure to regenerate itself, to repair itself. Naturally, the sensation of physiological movement is also more pleasant.
MADELEINE ROMMEL
Yoga teacher and physio-massage therapist.
Madeleine started down the path of Yoga 30 years ago, when she began to study both Ashtanga Yoga and Physiotherapy simultaneously.
Discovering these two disciplines were closely interlinked, she wrote her Thesis, in 1992, on the common principles between them, while she was studying with Shri K. Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute, in Mysore.
As a Physiotherapist, Madeleine specialised towards prevention, pursuing her interest in the natural / physiological movement guided by inner wisdom verses our will.
Her strong passion for Yoga lead her to attend over 500 days of workshop and 1000 hours of weekly classes at Ashtanga Yoga Institute Brussels (1988-2000), to study with Shri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore (1991-1992), with John Scott in Cornwalls, Goa and recently at YIS, as well as, punctually, with Sandra Howling and Nancy Gilgoff.
Madeleine is the founder of Ashtanga Yoga Woluwe asbl, a non-profit organisation in Brussels, where she has been teaching Ashtanga & Preventive Yoga classes, and conducting workshops since its creation in 1994. She has also completed a master’s degree in Journalism (1980), Photography (1986), a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (2006) and is a certified bellicon coach (2017).
With her knowledge, understanding and vast experience in successfully running a physiotherapy center in Brussels and teaching Ashtanga Yoga in a preventive way, Madeleine breathes calm, warmth and peace in her class.
Her biggest strength lies in her ability to adapt the practice to any level and easily connect with students.
Combining the principles of physio-massage therapy with Yoga, Madeleine provides students with clear alignment instruction, comforting hands-on adjustments, and an inviting Yoga practice.

Food
“Good” is a ROUND word. When a child says, “it’s GOOD,” he tells of a world untouched, pure, essential.
“You’re good,” means: “I can trust, I feel safe.” This is true for humans, but also for nourishment.
A child is master of the essential innate ideas. Adults need to relearn to feel, to savor the taste of food connected to the taste of life.
You Are Here, and on this table you receive the privilege of that ‘good’ that has the taste of childhood.
Close your eyes for a moment, while you perceive the food that from your mouth diffuses energy and pleasure in every part of you.
Organic, for what we produce, it is truth, not a definition of fashion: we cultivate without using herbicides or pesticides with an arduous daily work between the rows.
Grow for us means supporting and not interrupting the cycle of life.
This food walks only a few steps to get from the garden to our kitchen.
Yes, this food is Good, because it made with love, because it is good for your health and at the same time does not harm anyone; to get on your plate it does not exploit other creatures, did not generate suffering, and does not bring pain residues, but joy.
It is a harmonious food, whole, in harmony with creation, with Mother Earth.
This food is the present but also the future toward which to aim. The deep aspiration is that the philosophy of mindful eating, respecting all living beings will always expand more, generating virtuous circles.
Listen to this food, it talks emitting happy vibrations.
We do not choose the easy way out, we like the commitment.
We want a full life that tastes Good”.

Quoting BKS Iyengar: “The word ‘holistic’ is very fashionable nowadays, and one often hears people speak of ‘holistic’medicine. The word ‘holistic’ contains the word ‘whole’, which is the true meaning of ‘healthy’. When there is ‘wholeness’ of body, mind and self, this wholeness becomes holy. Holy means ‘divine’ and without divinity you cannot truly speak of holistic practice or of holistic medicine. When a person connects the soul to the skin and the skin to the soul, when there is a tremendous communion between the cells of the body and the cells of the soul, then that is holistic or integrated practice, because the whole of the human system has been integrated into a single unit in which body, mind, intelligence, consciousness and soul come together.Though tremendous advances has been made by science, medicine and psychology over many centuries, no one can define a frontier between body and mind or between mind and soul. They cannot be separated. They are intermingled, interconnected, united. Where there is mind, there is body, where there is body there is soul; where there is soul there is mind. Yet our everyday experience is of a great separation between these three. When we are engaged in mental activity, we are no longer aware of the body. When we are involved with the body, we lose sight of the soul.”
Yoga is a way to move towards integration. With us you will experience it.
