Kappeln & Region
The small former fishing village with museum port and periodic markets is situated directly at the «Ostseefjord Schlei» in the region called Angeln. This gentle waved landscape is affected by the so called «Knicks» and small forests; long native beaches are nearby.
The region is suitable for people interested in beach holidays, sports, culture, nature (Geltinger Birk), biking and hiking. You can experience a tour with the traditional steam railway «Angelner Dampfeisenbahn» from Kappeln to Süderbrarup which is a rarity; or you enjoy a shipping tour on the Schlei to Maasholm and Schleimünde or via Arnis and Missunde to Schleswig where you find one oft he most impressing gotic cathedrals in Schleswig-Holstein.
The cities of Flensburg, Schleswig, Eckernförde and Kiel as well as Husum are quickly reachable by car; there you find urban activities and atmosphere. If you even want more you can do daytrips for example to Denmark, Lübeck, the isle of Fehmarn or the so called «Holsteinische Schweiz».
